Project Samarthya & Disability: An Initiative by KISS towards Fostering Resilience and Inclusion in the Education System 2021

With governments across the world working towards adapting their education systems to the present new normal situation post the global pandemic, there is much to learn from KISS's initiative of fostering resilience and inclusion in the education systems of 2021. With poverty, gender, language barriers, disability and migration status being some of the most significant factors driving complete exclusion from quality education, KISS is working towards engraining the present inequalities. It is on the path of building support systems that are more inclusive and resilient. The foundation operates to form a global community that helps children with varied intersecting identities.

The foundation, under the able supervision and guidance of Dr. Achyuta Samanta, is proudly working towards serving the vision of no learner being excluded from quality education on the basis of gender, age, disability, financial status, ethnicity, language, indigenity, migration, religion, gender identity expression, location and sexual orientation.

KISS foundation targets quality education, prioritising a collective approach towards achieving this target. Serving as a top-quality educational institute in Odisha, it aims to involve alumni, parents, children and community members, and its teachers and support staff together in working towards safeguarding the requirements of the needy and the disabled children. Built on the indigenous community's power, KISS believes that such institutes and educational organisations can take the right steps for discrimination in education only through collective actions.

Hence, Project Samarthya & Disability by the KISS foundation!

With the launch of this project, KISS is not only working towards rebuilding a post-Covid world at KISS but is also looking to reshape the same. With this project, the foundation shows its interest in building improved education systems accessible and inclusive to all those who require it. The foundation is not just making changes to its very own education system but has even prioritised community development and engagement to rise along with the ones around.

Sources close to the work and administrative team at KISS say, "We are constantly and effortlessly working towards the objective of resilience and inclusion in the education system of 2021. Project Samarthya from our end is a collaborative assignment with the UNFPA or United Nations Population Fund, which will offer education to disabled adolescents in the special schools across Odisha. We are doing this in close coordination with the Department of Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disability, Government of Odisha."

The sources further added, "Our Project Samarthya is aimed towards addressing the vulnerabilities of the disabled adolescents in the sphere of violence and sexual reproductive health. And we are doing a commendable job in this context by boosting their skills and knowledge."

Through Samarthya, KISS, and the people there hope to reach out to all those adolescents and caregivers with proper information about health, rights, safety and well-being. This way, the foundation is working towards enabling disabled adolescents ion leading a healthy, productive and safe life, free from abuse and violence.
