Everything You Need to Know About Kiss

To start with, KISS is the largest tribal, academic, residential institution in the world. It offers free accommodation, education, food, vocational training and healthcare to more than 27000 indigenous youth. Then there is the additional number of around 10 000 students supported by the institute at its other branches. It is an academic institution that operates on the belief that it is possible to create a world that is free from the shackles of poverty, illiteracy and hunger.


                  


The Inception of KISS
This academic cum residential institute is the fruit of the long and difficult journey of Prof Achyuta Samanta, who first came up with KIIT. With a strong belief that KIIT would sustain the survival of KISS, Samanta came up with the institute, and it is doing good to date.

It is KIIT that supports the regular financial expenditures at KISS along with providing financial support for all forms of academic and residential facilities available at the institute. It is basically an NGO comprised of KISS School & College, KISS University and KISS Foundation.


What Does KISS Do?

Established in 1992, the institution has made continuous efforts towards women empowerment, sustainable development, tribal upliftment and inclusive education. It is only because of its consistent and continual efforts that the institution has become the largest education residential intuition for the tribal children.


The experience of the institute shows that if the indigenous students in the society get the right opportunity and access, there is nothing that they cannot achieve. Some of the major activities that the institute indulges in are as follows:

  • Educating and empowering students through a holistic approach that involves sports, vocational training and academia right from Kindergarten to Post-Graduation.
  • The institute also puts in the best efforts towards preserving the different tribal languages and cultures from more than 62 tribes represented in its student body.
  • Simultaneously, it even empowers its tribal students.
  • The institute was offered the status of “Deemed University” by the Ministry of Human Resource Development in 2017.
  • It has been 20 years that the institute has been operating on the world front, and it strongly stresses the point that it has learned and even developed by way of its indigenous community.
  • In almost everything that the institute does, it looks for and even creates scopes of connecting its students to a complete riches of expertise and global resources with the ability to empower and catalysing the same to come up as the change-makers in the society.                                                                                        


Aim, Mission and Vision

KISS operates with the objective of breaking the vicious cycle of social isolation and poverty while restoring hopes to create a better future. The vision of the institute is no indigenous individual shall be deprived of proper education due to poverty. Its main mission is empowering over 2 million indigenous students by way of top-quality education.
